This weekend we performed at the Sandwell and Birmingham Mela 2024. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was electric. Colour, music and celebration filled the air.

The Mela is a vibrant celebration of the region’s South Asian communities. However, it is also warmly embraced by people from every background. As a result, the event felt inclusive, welcoming and full of shared joy.

Throughout the weekend, audiences gathered to enjoy a rich and varied programme. In particular, we were grateful to Shine Duggal, who curated an exciting and diverse lineup. Not only did the programme showcase music and dance, but it also featured circus and puppetry. Moreover, the talent represented both the British Asian diaspora and artists from further afield. Consequently, the stage reflected a truly global celebration of culture and creativity.

In addition, the event received fantastic support from Creative Black Country. Their involvement helped ensure the festival ran smoothly and reached a wide audience. Because of this strong partnership, the weekend felt both professionally delivered and community driven.

Meanwhile, families, friends and visitors explored the festival site together. Children danced near the stage. Food stalls offered incredible aromas and flavours. Laughter and applause echoed across the park. Therefore, every performance felt part of something much bigger.

Above all, the Mela brought communities together. It created space for celebration, understanding and connection. We felt honoured to contribute to such a positive and uplifting event.

It was a wonderful weekend of entertainment, culture and unity for everyone involved.
